Stranraer Go Team Day
On Saturday the 14th September, 14 people from the Airdrie, Glasgow, and North Edinburgh RP churches, Alejandro Moreno from the American RP Church, and the Semester in Scotland students travelled down to Stranraer to meet up with the Go Team that had come over from Northern Ireland for a day of outreach in Stranraer. For Amy and Mairi from the North Edinburgh congregation, this meant getting up at 5am to catch the train to Airdrie for an 8am departure in the minibus. Stopping by Glasgow RPCS we picked up Katie and Alex, and then headed south.
Upon arrival at Stranraer RPCS, Rev. Gerald Milligan had us all introduce ourselves and we had a quick cup of coffee or tea, and then we were divided up into different groups to do literature distribution around the doors of Stranraer and some outlying villages. We were putting a four page leaflet through the letterboxes of the homes and flats. The leaflet had an article about guilt and the answer provided by Christ as well as information about Stranraer RP Church. Some of the team went through the town centre, handing out invitations to a tea and coffee afternoon in the church hall. It was a lovely sunny day, and we were really thankful for the good dry weather. We met back at the church hall for a delicious lunch provided by the ladies of the Stranraer congregation.
In the afternoon, some of us went back out to finish distributing, others visited a local care home to sing Psalms and chat to the residents, and some stayed in the church hall to help with the coffee/tea afternoon. You can listen to two of the Psalms sung at the care home by clicking here.
After meeting up again for tea, we had a time of Psalm singing and prayer, and then it was time for those from Northern Ireland to head back to the ferry and for the rest of us to start the drive home. Please remember this small congregation in your prayers and Rev. Gerald Milligan as he serves as stated supply there.
