Scottish RP Theological Seminary Opening Meeting
The Scottish RP Theological Seminary Opening Meeting was held on Friday the 11th October 2013 at Airdrie RP Church. Rev. Kenneth Stewart led the meeting and opened with a Psalm and prayer. Video greetings were then shown from Dr. Jerry O’Neill, President of RPTS in Pittsburgh, USA, and from Rev. Katsunori Endo, Rev. Shigeru Takiura, and Rev. Charles Leach of Kobe Theological Hall in Japan. Rev. Prof. Robert McCollum then brought greetings from the Reformed Theological College in Belfast and spoke of the great history of sharing in the training of men for ministry that has gone on between the Irish and Scottish RP Churches. After the singing of Psalm 67, Rev. Stewart then introduced Rev. Andrew Quigley, the Seminary Principal, who in turn introduced the faculty and students to the congregation. Rev. Quigley then addressed the meeting from 1 Timothy 3 and 2 Timothy 4. He spoke of how God has given the Church the responsibility of bearing the truth of God’s Word before the world and how it is to hold and proclaim the truth. This is an all-encompassing task – all other aspects and responsibilities of the church flow out from holding and proclaiming the truth. It is an exclusive task, given solely to the church. It is an entrusting task. The church is responsible to entrust to faithful men the truth so that they in turn will go and entrust it to the people of God. Rev. Quigley spoke of how the Seminary would seek to train men to have character, competence, compassion, and courage through immersing them in the Word of God. The meeting then closed with the singing of Psalm 126 and prayer and a thank offering was taken up. A light supper was then served in the church hall.
