North Edinburgh Communion & Membership
On the Lord’s Day, the 20th January, elders from Airdrie RP Church travelled across to the North Edinburgh RP Fellowship to oversee Miss Mairi Ferrier and Mrs. Emma Loughridge coming into the membership of the Airdrie RP Church. Because the North Edinburgh Fellowship is not an organised church yet with its own Session, those who are members are members in Airdrie and under the spiritual oversight of the Airdrie Session though they worship in North Edinburgh. The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper also took place at this worship service. Here is a report about the day:
On Sunday, 20 January 2013, we celebrated communion together in North Edinburgh Reformed Presbyterian Church for the first time.
The sermon was on Mark 15:33-39 and what we can learn from the events surrounding Jesus’ death on the cross. The darkness teaches that sin causes God’s anger. Jesus’ cry teaches that sin causes abandonment. The torn curtain in the temple teaches that sinners can be accepted.
Following the sermon, Mairi Ferrier and Emma Loughridge – after stating their faith in Jesus and taking vows promising, with God’s help, to live for Him – were accepted into the membership of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Scotland.
The bread and wine were then distributed to those taking communion. Together we give thanks for Jesus our Saviour, whose body was broken and whose blood was shed so that those trusting in Him could be forgiven. We also praise God for building His Church here in North Edinburgh and bringing us to the stage where we were able to take communion together for the first time.
